IHSS Eligibility & How to Apply
Eligibility for In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) is determined by Marin County Health and Human Services.
If you are interested in applying for IHSS or want to find out whether you or a loved one may qualify, please visit the County’s official IHSS page – Marin County IHSS Eligibility and Application Information: https://www.marinhhs.org/home-supportive-services-ihss
This page explains:
- Who may qualify for IHSS
- What services are covered
- How to apply
- Who to contact for help with an application
Once you are approved for IHSS, the Marin County IHSS Public Authority can support you with finding caregivers, using the Registry, and accessing additional resources.
Steps and What to Expect
- Call the County of Marin IHSS Intake Hotline 415-473-4636.
- A Social Worker will be referred to you and a home visit will be scheduled.
- The Social Worker will determine your eligibility for services. You will receive a Notice of Action, if eligible, that will state your number of authorized hours and list your authorized tasks.
- If you are using your own Care Provider, this person must become enrolled as an IHSS Care Provider with the State to be eligible to receive payment for services.
- The IHSS Public Authority can help you find a Care Provider who meets your needs if you do not already have someone helping you.
